Domain Scam Targets Businesses

Joe Miller - Domain Scam

Got an email from “Joe Miller” lately? You’re not alone. Many businesses are reporting getting a suspicious email about their website domain renewal. Here’s what you should do if you receive this domain scam messaging, too.

Unfortunately, this is just the latest wave in domain scamming or domain jamming. Domain slamming is when a company that has no connection to the domain owner (registrant) sends unsolicited and misleading communication that encourages the registrant to transfer the domain to its own brand, under the pretext of being a ‘Domain Expiration Notice’. If you receive a message similar to the one featured in the video, your best bet is to connect with your web admin, IT team or check your domain renewal through ICANN’S site or WhoIs’ lookup.
