On November 1, we flagged the cyber attack that crippled the Newfoundland and Labrador healthcare system and exposed the personal health information of clients. As per Eastern Health, this involves some personal health information of those who received services from Eastern Health at any time over approximately the last 14 years and includes information used at registration for services such as: name, address, medical care plan (MCP), who a client is visiting, and reason for visit, physician name, and phone number, date of birth, and email address for notifications, inpatient/outpatient, maiden name and marital status.

In an attempt to safeguard those affected, Eastern Health is offering access to credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Equifax Canada.

Credit Monitoring and Identity Theft Protection Enrollment Information

Individuals over the age of eighteen with a Canadian credit file can use this service to monitor their credit and identification information, as well as to detect and respond to fraudulent credit activity. Coverage will be dependent on the availability of the service in their region for people living outside of Canada.

Clients can get their unique Equifax Activation Code and registration instructions by calling the provincial toll-free information line at 1-833-718-3021. Individuals must be able to respond to three qualifying questions.

Eastern Health’s IT Systems Outage page has further information about this service package, including how to enroll and frequently asked questions. A process is being developed for those who require more assistance in order to use the Equifax credit monitoring service. Once the details are completed, they will be shared.
