wet roads crop

It’s shocking to watch but the video below is a stark reminder of one thing – the posted speed limit is only meant for perfect driving conditions. Add in heavy rain & fog and drivers should reduce their speed immediately.

At 120 km/h, a vehicle uses about 20% more fuel than at 100 km/h. On a 100 km trip, this spike in speed—and fuel consumption—would cut just 8 minutes from your travel time.  Is being 8 minutes faster really that important? Is your life worth risking over 8 minutes? What about others on the road? It’s simple. If roads are wet or the fog is thick, slow down.

Follow these tips to stay safe on our roads:

  • Turn on headlights, wipers, and defroster to increase visibility.
  • Drive in the tracks of the vehicle ahead and reduce speed.
  • Allow increased space between the vehicle and others, and leave extra time to stop.
  • If the car begins to hydroplane, hold the steering wheel straight and remove foot from the gas pedal.
  • In a thunderstorm, pull off the road in an open area and away from trees to avoid a lightning strike.

If you have any questions about your auto policy or wish to discuss your coverage please do not hesitate to reach out to our team. We’d love to hear from you. Stay safe!
